WHAT IS FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY?
Facial trauma is simply defined any physical injury to the face. It may affect either the soft tissues or to the facial bones or both and require specialized surgery to restore the original appearance. Dr. Griner is considered an expert in facial trauma reconstruction and is one of the most skilled providers in the region. He can help restore the function and appearance of these damaged areas with reconstructive surgery. He treats patients immediately after injury and is also known for his secondary revision work for those who have ended up with a suboptimal result from a prior repair.
Examples of common facial traumas that may require surgery include:
- Facial Fractures
- Burns
- Cuts
- Dog Bites
Any of these situations can cause significant damage, and at Peak Plastic Surgery, we approach every situation with the latest diagnostic and surgical techniques, so we can address these situations and provide the necessary restorative procedures.

TREATMENT
Facial trauma is, of course, a broad category, and there is a lot that factors that may play a part in our treatment plan. The degree of the trauma is a big factor, but we also consider things like age, health, and the location of the trauma.
Sometimes, procedures to repair facial injuries begin in the Emergency Room or require specialized surgical procedures to stabilize the injuries. Once that is done, though, those results can be enhanced with further surgery.
We encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Griner to discuss your specific situation. Dr. Griner is experienced in these procedures and uses an approach which focuses on restoring function as well as form and appearance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Before Surgery
Please arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery. You may also ask them to be around to provide some help over the next couple days (depending on your situation). There are also important guidelines to follow regarding things like eating, drinking, and smoking, and we’ll provide you with an easy-to-follow list and Dr. Griner will go over them with you prior to your surgery.
Day of Surgery
On the day of the surgery, you’ll be able to ask any last-minute questions or express any concerns when you meet your anesthesiologist, your operative nurse, and Dr. Griner. The length of the surgery can vary depending on your case, so instead of providing some generalities here, Dr. Griner will get to your case and then help you get a better idea about your specific surgery duration.
Recovery
The recovery time for facial reconstruction surgery is, of course, largely dependent on the severity of your case and the surgical procedures that were employed. In some cases, multiple procedures are necessary to achieve optimal results, so this can obviously impact your recovery. Dr. Griner will discuss in good detail what you can expect after your surgery.
